POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a young Neston woman died in a car crash.

The 23-year-old, who has not been formally identified yet, died of her injuries at the scene.

It is believed her red MG Rover car had left the B5130 road in Chester and collided with a tree.

Her passenger, a 19-year-old woman from the Chester area, is currently critically ill at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

The accident happened on Chester Road, Huntington, one-and-a-half miles south of the Rake & Pikel pub, around 4am on Wednesday (October 22).

A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: “An 18-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

“He has been released on police bail until January 2009.”

She added: “We are appealing to anyone who saw the Rover or a Peugeot 306 driving in the area at the same time.

“They should call Sergeant Rachel Gallagher or Sgt Dave Harrison on 01244 613163/68.”
