ADVENTUROUS Elspeth Church is no ordinary charity fundraiser.
She has decided to go that extra mile and sign up to the ultimate challenge, an 11-day trek along the Inca Trail in Peru to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
Elspeth, from Neston, will be trekking across hilly and difficult terrain next July with the encouragement of her boyfriend who suffers from muscle disease.
She is calling on local people to get on board and sign up for the challenge, having already recruited her friends and family to help her raise funds for the trek.
Together they will be borrowing an idea from American supermarkets, packing people’s shopping into bags in their local shops to raise funds for the trip.
Elspeth is hoping the trek will not prove too gruelling, having scaled the hills and valleys of Scotland and Wales.
Although she’s never been to Peru she is a keen traveller, embarking on previous trekking excursions in Africa and South East Asia.
She said: “I can’t wait to go on the trek, I’ve heard many wonderful stories about Peru and read that doing the Inca Trail is one of life’s must-dos.
“Doing this for charity makes the opportunity even better and hopefully we can get people involved in fundraising and signing up for the challenge.”
Combining her love for the nature and being inspired by her boyfriend, Elspeth is looking forward to the journey.
Although she’s slightly apprehensive about trekking with a new group of people, she is hoping to inspire others to take up the challenge and join them.
Event organiser Alun Mainwaring said: “We are delighted that Elspeth has taken on this challenge in aid of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. It takes a dedicated person to trek through the mountains and valleys of the trail and his contribution will go a long way to helping people with muscle disease.
Elspeth has also arranged a deal with the landscape photographers, Nexus Images. Individuals that use the discount code ‘thechurschester’ will get a 10% discount off their prints, and a further 15% from the sale of the prints under this discount code will go to Elspeth’s Just Giving fund.
All money raised from the Trek will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. To take part call 020 7803 4820 or email email@example.com.
