A BLANKET of white ash fell on cars across Ellesmere Port on Monday.

The mystery dust was spotted covering vehicles and window ledges in both Great Sutton and Little Sutton on Monday afternoon.

As the wind at the time was coming from a north-north-west direction, the finger of suspicion has been pointed across the Mersey to South Liverpool.

By Tuesday the wind and a smattering of rain had dispersed much of the ash.

One resident of Kronsbec Avenue, Great Sutton, who did not wish to be named, said both he and his son had seen their freshly cleaned cars covered in the fine particles.

The man, whose son lives in Sutton Way, added: “This is not the first time that the Little Sutton area has been subject to dust/ash fallout.

“I am convinced this is some form of industrial waste and am suspicious that it has happened when the environment inspectors are most probably on holiday.”

He has complained to Cheshire West and Chester Council's environment department, which has forwarded it to the Environment Agency with a report expected in up to five weeks.

Yesterday the resident added: “I am getting concerned as this morning my PC screen was also covered in the fine dust so it has got into my house, and I will obviously have breathed whatever in.”
