MARKET superintendent John Green has solved a 16-year-old mystery.
A face on a Northwich Vics team picture of 1911-12, which appears in the club history A Team For All Seasons, has never been identified – until now.
The player is captioned ‘unknown’ in the book by the late Ken Edwards.
John, who oversees the markets at Northwich and Winsford, and his wife Gillian recognised the player immediately.
It is Gillian’s grandfather, Harry Copeland, who played inside left for Vics for two seasons, helping them to the Manchester League runners-up spot the season the photograph was taken.
“Vics were as high as he ever got. He gave up football shortly after to become a solicitor’s clerk,” said John.
Harry died in 1975 aged 91.
