Connah's Quay Nomads 4 Carmarthen Town 1

TOMMY MUTTON ended his goal drought in sensational fashion as he fired a hat-trick to send the Quay into the top four.

The striker, who had gone nine games without hitting the back of the net, was back to his deadly best as the Deesiders emphatically put their mini-blip behind them.

Nomads boss Nev Powell said: “Tommy’s confidence has been hit but I know the Carmarthen manager Mark Jones rates him as one of the best forwards in the league so there was no way I was going to leave him out.

“He proved why he is so valuable to us.”

Powell’s men made the worse possible start though as fellow high-flyers Carmarthen took a fourth-minute lead through Paul Fowler.

However, the hosts didn’t have to wait long for the equaliser, as Mutton stabbed in with 19 minutes played.

That spurred Nomads on and Chris Williams had a header cleared off the line before Mutton wastefully volleyed over.

And they were nearly made to pay as the visitors came close to regaining the advantage just before the break when Nathan Cotherall shot wide.

But that was as good as it got for Carmarthen, as within nine minutes of the second half, Nomads put the game to bed.

Mutton bagged his second when his goalbound effort deflected in, before captain Limbert delightfully exchanged passes with Adam Dickinson to rifle home the third.

It was left up to Mutton to wrap up the scoring, as he completed his treble by clinically converting a cross from the excellent Christian Seargeant.
