MUSICIANS will gather in Ellesmere Port’s Civic Square as part of the largest cultural event to close London 2012.

The square will be full of musical talent from the area on Sunday, September 9, thanks to Cheshire West and Chester council.

Performances will be held simultaneously at The Groves Bandstand, Chester with hundreds of outdoor, community concerts taking place across the country, making up the Bandstand Marathon.

Bands, groups, choirs and individual musicians are being sought to perform whatever their musical style.

Cllr Stuart Parker, executive member for culture and recreation, said: “We are thrilled to host two Bandstand Marathon events in our borough and be part of London 2012 festival.

“This will be a great opportunity to celebrate our local talent in addition to providing a great day for all the family.”

Katharine Lane, Superact’s associate director, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for musicians to showcase their talent to their local community and feel they are playing a part in London 2012.

“The Bandstand Marathon aims to include as much live performance from as many cultures and communities as possible.”

Bandstand Marathon is part of the London 2012 Festival, a 12-week nationwide celebration running until September 9 and bringing together leading artists from across the world.
