A FAMILY’S dreams of a happy Christmas went up in smoke when a devastating fire ripped through their home in Linnards Lane, Wincham, on December 22.

About 20 firefighters from Northwich and Winsford fought the blaze, which is believed to have been started by an electrical fault in the roof space.

Fortunately, both the occupants, a mother and her daughter, managed to escape unscathed.

Steve Burrage, Fire Watch Manager for Northwich, said: ‘It was a very severe fire indeed, involving the roof and the whole of the first floor. Just as we arrived the fire broke through the ceiling and sent everything crashing into the rooms below.

‘The whole operation took around four hours to complete.’
