TWO MPs have expressed their disappointment over Wrexham Council's plans to stop funding neighbourhood wardens across the county borough.

Labour MPs Martyn Jones, who represents Clwyd South, and Ian Lucas, who represents Wrexham, said they were disappointed to learn councillors voted against an extra £200,000 for the scheme in 2005/2006.

Members of Wrexham Council's executive board voted to wait for the outcome of a one-year pilot before making plans to expand the scheme.

Mr Jones said: 'I should not be surprised at this - the Liberal Democrats are on record in Parliament as voting against the Anti-Social Behaviour Act in June 2003.'

Mr Lucas added: 'Time and again my constituents tell me they want these wardens.'

But Executive Board member Alun Jenkins said: 'The money is there for this year but the problem was for the following year.'
