THE files of more than 21,000 children and their families in the Eddisbury constituency alone were included on the two data disks lost by Revenue and Customs.

“I understand why families are furious and concerned about personal security, not least their bank details falling into criminal hands,” said Stephen O’Brien, MP for Eddisbury, which includes Winsford, Cuddington, Davenham and Moulton.

“It’s a disaster. The Government has proven they cannot be trusted to safeguard our personal information, let alone run a national ID database.”

Mr O’Brien added: ‘It is a massive number in my constituency and there are thousands more across Cheshire. It’s a fiasco.”

The Chronicle understands the figure for Vale Royal is close to 16,000, mainly from Northwich and Winsford.
