THE All-Wales Seatbelt Campaign has been launched this week.

This year's campaign will be led by Gwent Police on behalf of the four Welsh police forces and will run until March 22.

It will involve officers, including those from North Wales, making a combined effort to heighten public awareness of the potentially fatal dangers for drivers and passengers failing to wear seatbelts.

Chief Insp Julian Knight of Gwent Police said: 'Failing to wear a seatbelt when driving or travelling as a passenger is still apparent on Welsh roads. We treat the problem seriously and target vehicles 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

'Responsible drivers don't drive or let their passengers travel without wearing a seatbelt.'
