A MOTORCYCLIST died on Tuesday night after ploughing into a hedge at Cholmondeley on Sunday.

The unnamed 39-year-old man from Northwich was “critical” at the Countess of Chester Hospital after the incident at 7.45am - and succumbed to his injuries a few days later.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the collision on the A49, just south of Cholmondeley Castle between the castle and the Cholmondeley Arms pub.

Police spokeswoman Jacqui Hanson said: “Two motorcyclists were travelling together south towards Whitchurch when one of the motorcyclists left the road and collided with a hedge.”

The A49, a major trunk road, road was closed after the crash and did not re-open for another five hours.

Ms Hanson added: “Police are keen to hear from anybody who may have seen the motorcycle leave the road or who may have seen anything prior to the collision occurring which may be relevant to the collision investigation.”

Witnesses should contact Nigel Nicholas at the specialist investigation unit in Crewe on 0845 458 0000.
