EXTRA police at night in Ellesmere Port have slashed burglary over the last month, thanks to an operation set up in August.

Extra officers were on the streets in the early hours in the crackdown on burglars.

PCSOs spoke to householders about the importance of security such as locking doors and windows and leaving lights on during the evenings.

Insp Richard Rees said: “The operation proved to be very successful. Not only did the police presence give reassurance to the community but officers were also actively looking for offenders.

“A series of stop-checks led to people being dealt with or sent out of the area in the early hours of the morning.

“The fact that PCSOs were out and about reminding people about security was also a huge factor in this decrease. Many of the break-ins we were seeing were as a result of a door being left unlocked or a window open.

“Many thieves are opportunistic and will go for easy targets. If your house is secure, you are much less likely to become a victim. This operation is about enforcement and education.”
