A HOUSING association is leading a partnership to bite back at loan sharks and encourage its tenants to be ‘Money Wise’ during the credit crunch - starting today.

Muir Group Housing Association is teaming up with Cheshire Police, Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire Neighbours Credit Union and the North West Trading Standards Illegal Money Lending Team to stop criminals preying on Cheshire residents.

The organisations are coming together to hold the first Money Wise event at Glebe Green in Winsford today, Wednesday, from noon-4pm.

The event will offer tenants an ethical and affordable way to save and borrow money.

And to lend a helping hand, the Credit Union is giving every household on the Glebe Green estate a £10 voucher to open a Christmas savings account.

David Hull, Muir’s regional manager, said: “We know families in Winsford have fallen foul of these criminals so we want to give our tenants a safe and cheaper way to manage their finances.

“Loan sharks are illegal, dangerous and often resort to threats and intimidation. We want to alert our tenants to these dangers and offer them a safe alternative.”
