Llanelli 4 Caernarfon Town 2

THREE basic errors cost struggling Caernarfon dear when they took on full-timers Llanelli, who proceeded to complete a comprehensive double.

Buoyed by a 6-2 spree at The Oval in October, Llanelli punished Steve O’Shaughnessy’s men again by blasting two goals in five minutes at the start of the second half.

The Canaries boss said: “It was the same old story about our being punished for three individual mistakes, because otherwise Llanelli scored just one good goal.

“We created enough chances, and to be fair they did as well, but we were left disappointed, not so much by the result as by the manner of our defeat.

“With the score at 1-1 at half time, having played quite well, we hoped we could build on that in the second half, but then we committed those mistakes and were punished.

“Even after that when we pulled back the situation to 3-2, we again believed we could turn things our way, only for Llanelli to produce the conclusive fourth goal.”

Caernarfon, stuck at the league’s basement with relegation a growing danger, fell behind on nine minutes when Nicky Palmer won possession just outside the box to fire past Paul Pritchard.

Town’s recent signing Paul Addo bagged the equaliser on 28 minutes, chasing a through-ball to lob home keeper Duncan Roberts, while other chances fell to Gwyn Peters and James Thomas.

It was that double whammy by Llanelli, straight after the resumption on 46 and 51 minutes from Andrew Mumford on the break and Jacob Mingorance chasing a lobbed pass, that undermined Town’s revival.

Leyton Maxwell converted a penalty on 55 minutes, after James Thomas had been tripped, but the home team had the final say through Rhys Griffiths on 68.
