HALTON hospital opened its doors to a government minister last week - in order to show off its Age Concern/North Cheshire Hospitals information project.

Ivan Lewis, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Health went to the Runcorn site on Friday to take a look at the scheme, which was launched in September 2007.

The project aims to ensure that older patients can get information on all aspects of available support, such as allowances, benefits and support to help maintain their independence. It is run by Age Concern volunteers.

More than 700 patients and relatives have been able to access information since the project got under way less than a year ago.
