A RETIRED minister is handing £500 to a fighting fund to try and keep his beloved Wrexham football club in business.

The fund, spearheaded by Wrexham-born Wales and Birmingham City midfielder Robbie Savage, was set up in a bid to pay off a £900,000 tax bill to the Inland Revenue by November 17.

The club faces closure unless it pays the bill.

The Rev Geoffrey Holden, 79, and his wife Margaret, 70, from Abersgethin, Talybont, near Barmouth acted after reading about the club's recent misfortunes.

Donations can be sent to Wrexham's Fighting Fund, Carroll Clark, 4, Lyndale Grove, Wrexham, LL12 8DQ.
