A MULTI-MILLION pound project to revolutionise care for over-60s is nearing completion.

The Hazelmere extra care ‘village’ at Hambleton Way, Winsford, will provide 106 one and two-bedroom apartments for retired people, as well as restaurants, shops, landscaped gardens and a library and IT suite.

The scheme is a part of a council drive to meet the demands of an ageing population. By 2031, it is expected about 26% of Cheshire’s population will be aged over 65.

A county council spokeswoman said Hazelmere will open in mid-June.

Other facilities will include a café, hair and beauty salon, fitness suite, hobby and craft rooms and a ‘village hall’.

Developers Avantage will also provide 24-hour security features.

Similar facilities will open in Middlewich and Ellesmere Port next month, and in Crewe in August.

The scheme will cost Avantage £65m.

A quarter of the Winsford apartments are already reserved, with residents able to buy or rent.
