EDUCATION chiefs have bestowed ‘the highest accolade in the world of further education’ on Mid-Cheshire College.

The college, based at Hartford, has been awarded Learning & Skills Beacon status.

Principal John Reilly said: “This has been a wonderful year for Mid- Cheshire College.

“After being judged to be ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted back in November we are thrilled to have been selected as one of the latest Beacon colleges.

“I am particularly pleased for the staff who have worked tirelessly over the past few years to transform the fortunes of the college. They fully deserve this accolade.”

The college received its latest award at a ceremony in London attended by the new Minister for Further Education, Kevin Brennan. Only 12 institutions were selected out of the whole country.

“The people of Northwich now have two post-16 Beacons serving their town, with Sir John Deane’s College having achieved Beacon status back in 2006,” said Mr Reilly.

“It should be very reassuring for local people to know their children will have access to high-quality education and training all across the locality.”
