A SPECIAL memorial to remember and celebrate the life of former borough council leader Fred Venables has been unveiled at Overpool Cemetery.
A Himalayan birch tree with a circular seat at its base is the lasting memorial to the popular Ellesmere Port councillor who devoted his life to serving the borough.
A memorial plaque on the tree reads “Frederick William Venables. Dedicated to the community. A true gentleman who is sadly missed”.
Quiet contemplation will be encouraged in this part of the cemetery, which will be renamed Venables Garden.
The unveiling took place on Thursday, which was the second anniversary of Fred Venables’ death.
