THE brother of Arthur Tolley, who took his own life aged just 22 last year, has organised a day of activities in Ellesmere Port to mark the first anniversary of his death.

Michael Tolley, 21, hopes the event will raise money for the Samaritans and a trust fund set up in the name of Arthur’s two-year-old daughter Everlie.

A football match will kick-start events at 11.30am this Saturday on the Westminster playing field in New Grosvenor Road, Westminster, with players being asked to give £5 to play.

It will be followed with a bouncy castle, live music, a barbecue and face-painting and live music will begin at 2pm.

Michael, of John Nicholas Crescent, said: “There’s going to be two collection boxes – one for Arthur’s daughter and one for the Samaritans.

“We’re hoping the weather stays nice.

“We’ve guessed about 100 people will be there but we’ll see what happens on the day.

“We did the same thing last year about a week after he died. We just had a small barbecue then so for this one we’re hoping to get a real event and get some awareness for the Samaritans.”

Arthur, known as ‘Arty’ to his friends, of Cressington Gardens, hanged himself on April 19, 2010, after rowing over the phone with his girlfriend, Tamara Hodder. He had asked who she had been at a party with the night before.

The former Catholic High School student was found by his father, John Tolley, and two police officers.
