THE mayor of Ellesmere Port, Cllr Angela Claydon, held a civic service at St John’s Parish Church, Great Sutton.

The service was officiated by Rev David Fisher, assisted by the curate, the Rev Collette Jones. Readings were by Hon Alderman Peter Shephard, and Cllr Ben Powell.

It was attended by the mayor and mayoress of Halton, the sheriff of Chester and the mayor of Neston.

Also in attendance were honorary aldermen and past mayors of Ellesmere Port and Neston, and current members of the Charter Trustees in Ellesmere Port, who all enjoyed a buffet in the church hall after the service.

Cllr Claydon said: “I am delighted to be able to reinstitute the civic service in Ellesmere Port, and would like to offer my gratitude to the Rev Fisher, and the whole team at the church who made it possible.

“I hope that it will once again be an annual event.”
