THIS is the gunman who fled after trying to rob a petrol station.

Police have released the CCTV image to appeal to witnesses or anyone with information.

The masked man pulled out a firearm but did not discharge it during the raid on the Shell garage in Station Road, Ellesmere Port.

He struck at 5.25am on Sunday, September 14.

He approached the night service till, manned by a lone member of staff, and threatened him with a firearm.

The robber demanded money from the till but then fled empty-handed on a push-bike.

He was white, 5ft 6ins tall, well-built, wearing a white and green hoodie and navy gloves. His face was covered by a dark Balaclava.

The cashier was not injured but left very shaken by the incident.

Detective Constable Anna Thorley, of Chester, Ellesmere Port & Neston CID, said: “We’ve had some calls with information but we still need more people to come forward.

“We don’t know yet what type of weapon it was. We’re treating it as someone trying their luck and don’t think it’s connected to anything else.

“We are still keen to speak to the driver of a red trailer lorry who pulled on to the forecourt just after the offence.”

If you witnessed the incident or have any information contact DC Thorley on 01244 613134 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
