MARC LLOYD WILLIAMS made a goalscoring return as Rhyl stayed firmly on course for European qualification this summer with victory over a resilient Newtown.

But Rhyl were unable to make a breakthrough in the first period, before overcoming the home side's spirited resistance in the second period courtesy of goals from Lloyd Williams and Lee Hunt.

Former Robins marksman Lloyd Williams returned to haunt his former club when making the breakthrough from close range following a 70th-minute corner.

And Hunt added a second five minutes from time when heading home from another flag kick to clinch a victory that helped take Rhyl six points clear in third and in sight of an Intertoto Cup spot.
