A LORRY driver was in hospital suffering from severe shock yesterday after a man playing chicken with traffic on the M6 died under the wheels of his heavy goods vehicle.
The driver, 45, from Ellesmere Port, hit the man on the motorway close to Wigan at around 2.30am.
The victim had earlier been seen zig-zagging in and out of lanes and running from one carriageway to the other.
A police spokesman said: "Many other motorists stopped to offer support to the lorry driver who was taken to hospital suffering from shock."
The motorway was closed for four hours.
