POLICE are warning Christmas revellers in the town to act responsibly following a nightclub incident on Sunday morning which has left a man fighting for his life.

Stuart James Pointon, 22, of Runcorn, remains in a critical but stable condition at Walton Neurological Centre in Liverpool after allegedly being punched to the floor at Destiny and Elite Nightclub, Coliseum Way, at 2.50am.

Yesterday (Tuesday) father-of-one Ashley David Antcliff, 21, of Foxdene, Little Sutton, appeared in Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston Magistrates Court charged with grievous bodily harm following his arrest on Sunday.

The forklift truck driver, who works in Elton, is accused of punching Mr Pointon in an argument about a spilt drink.

Antcliff has been released on bail to return to court on January 5 on the condition he resides at home and reports to Ellesmere Port Police Station daily. He was also electronically tagged and given a curfew of 8pm to 6am, except on those days when he works night shifts.

Assistant Chief Constable Janette McCormick has warned revellers causing disorder and violence and said: “If alcohol affects behaviour to an extent where things really get ugly officers will bring those responsible to justice.”
