A MAN will appear at court next month charged with stealing a war memorial plaque from a village churchyard.

Michael Coyne, 39, from Little Neston, will appear at Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston Magistrates Court on October 12.

Overnight between Friday, July 29, and Saturday, July 30, thieves took a metal plaque listing the names of fallen war heroes from Christ Church, Neston Road, Willaston.

Officers from Ellesmere Port Neighbourhood Policing Team later executed a warrant in Mellock Lane, Little Neston.

Coyne was charged last Wednesday, September 21, with handling stolen goods.
