A WINNINGTON man has been told he could be jailed after pleading guilty to two “very serious” assaults on his wife.

Vale Royal Magistrates Court remanded 54-year-old George Shaw, of Cromwell Road, Northwich, will be sentenced on August 11 after he admitted the charges at a hearing on Wednesday.

The offences in question happened on July 18 but there had been others, said prosecutor Karen Morgan-Reade.

“He’s been assaulting his wife throughout the period of the offences which have brought him to court. These assaults included not only hitting her but also the use of a knife.”

“This is a very serious case of domestic violence,” she told the bench, “The Crown has got concerns he’ll commit further offences against this lady.”

Shaw will remain in custody until he is sentenced and magistrates refused to rule out a prison term.
