A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an assault outside a Northwich bar in the early hours of Saturday.

The 55-year-old male victim is currently being treated at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire for “serious head injuries”, following the incident outside Madisons on High Street at 1am.

Two men were initially arrested on suspicion of assault, a 41-year-old man from Northwich and a 46-year-old man from Warrington, but have now been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Cheshire police spokeswoman Jacqui Hanson said: “At around 1am an altercation took place outside Madisons nightclub on High Street. It is then thought the disputing parties went to the rear of the club, on Weaver Street, where a number of people were assaulted.

“As a result a 55-year-old local man suffered serious head injuries. He was initially taken to Leighton Hospital, but subsequently transferred to North Staffordshire Hospital, where his condition remains serious.

“A 49-year-old local man suffered injuries to his arm and is also at North Staffordshire Hospital for treatment. A 23-year-old local man was also injured, but was treated at hospital and subsequently released.”

A 31-year-old Warrington woman was also arrested last night, Sunday, on suspicion of assisting an offender.
