A 26-YEAR-OLD man was yesterday arrested on suspicion of arson after a huge fire which swept through a council housing estate.
The man was taken in for questioning about the blaze which engulfed five terraced homes in Bran on the Plas Madoc estate near Wrexham.
He was later released on police bail as an investigation into the fire continued.
A North Wales Police spokeswoman said last night: “A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and has been released on police bail pending further inquires.”
Yesterday a spokeswoman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their investigations were also continuing.
The fire forced seven panic-stricken families out of their homes in the early hours of Friday morning. Nobody was injured in the fire which started at a house, believed to be empty, just after 12am on Friday morning and spread to four neighbouring properties.
Three pumps from Wrexham, one from Johnstown and one from Llangollen fought the flames.
The aerial platform ladder from Wrexham, the Incident Command Unit from Colwyn Bay and a further three pumps from Chirk, Oswestry and from Ellesmere were also called to help.
