FOUR people have died following a motorway pile-up this morning (Wednesday), leaving the M6 closed in both directions between junctions 16 and 15 (Crewe) .
The accident happened between Keele services and Junction 16 at 11.40.
A lorry travelling south crashed through the central reservation, colliding with a box van and two cars travelling in the opposite direction.
The drivers of the lorry, the van and the two cars all died at the scene. A number of other people have also been injured.
The motorway is expected to remain closed until late evening as it cannot be reopened for safety reasons until the central barrier which was damaged in the crash has been repaired.
Traffic is being diverted along the A500 through Stoke-on-Trent.
