WREXHAM boss Brian Little has wasted no time to further add to his squad as midfielder Robbie Garrett rejoins the club.

Garrett returns to the Racecourse for the third time after being allowed out on loan by Stoke City for a further spell.

Meanwhile, midfield duo Levi Mackin and Conall Murtagh will be shipped out on loan later this week to help Blue Square Premier strugglers Droylsden in their battle against relegation.

And Little yesterday said that a change of scene would be of benefit to Mackin and Murtagh, neither of whom have regularly figured in Wrexham’s League Two campaign this season.

“It’s better for them at the moment than playing reserve-team football here,” said the Dragons boss.

“In addition to bringing in Danny (Sonner), we have Neil Roberts playing in there as well and Jeff is going to become more involved. In the circumstances I felt it would do Conall and Levi some good to be playing in a decent standard of football.”

The temporary departures could pave the way for yet more arrivals in the coming days, despite Wrexham’s welcome return to winning ways last weekend – their first victory in nine outings.

“With two going out it potentially frees things up to bring in people,” added Little. “While I’m obviously pleased with Saturday’s win, we must not let it distract us from the long-term aim and that means keeping all our options open at the moment.

“We’ve not cracked it by any means just yet. Both the result and the performance – in which we matched MK Dons – was a massive step in the right direction, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be looking for the chance to change a few more things yet.”

The Racecourse boss claimed the 1-0 success against Paul Ince’s League Two leaders had been built on a gradual improvement in form stretching back over the previous three matches.

But he said the result would count for nothing if his players were unable to maintain the same standard.

“At certain times there was genuine commitment in specific situations and that came from the confidence the players have begun to show in themselves in their recent performances,” he said.

“Paul Ince said afterwards he believed his side had been out-fought on the day and that might well have been the case.

“But when we find ourselves playing the sides that like us are at the bottom, both teams will be evenly matched in that respect.

“Nevertheless Saturday was important, irrespective of the opposition, and hopefully that will spur us on to put together a run of games that puts points on the board for us.”

With Wrexham’s scheduled League Two visit to Hereford United this weekend postponed because of the Bulls’ continued involvement in the FA Cup, Little is hoping that the provisionally arranged clash with Bradford City goes ahead instead.

The Bantams are due to play Barnet on Saturday, but the game will be postponed if the Underhill outfit win an FA Cup replay this evening to earn a fourth-round clash with either Fulham or Bristol Rovers.

“Ideally we would like to try and build on last Saturday’s result with another game this weekend,” Little said.

“We don’t want to fall too far behind in terms of games in hand and we would also like to get closer – in terms of points – to the clubs around us, so the sooner we play again the better.”
