A long-serving town councillor has been awarded the freedom of Frodsham .

Cllr Frank Pennington, who has been a member Frodsham Town Council for 40 years, is now the first Freeman of the town.

The veteran Waterside Ward representative said he was proud to receive the honour, thanked his fellow councillors said his desire to keep going ‘with the same gusto’ was undiminished.

Cllr Pennington said: “I’ve had my ups and downs and I’ve been barred from this, that and the other but I will still keep going.

“I’ve always tried my best with this council to represent the community.

“It has been an honour to serve the people of Frodsham and I’m delighted to receive this award.”

The motion was approved at the Frodsham Town Council meeting on January 25.

Fellow Waterside member councillor Mallie Poulton put forward the suggestion and said it would be a ‘fitting’ way to mark Cllr Pennington’s ‘dedicated’ 40 years of service.

Chairman Mike Pusey said he doubted anyone would object to bestowing the ‘well deserved’ recognition.

The highest honour the town can bestow, granting the Freedom of Frodsham allows those who receive it to use the title of Freeman and the privilege ‘to march through the streets of the town with colours flying, band playing and bayonets fixed’.
