THE primary school at Welshampton, judged “outstanding” by Ofsted inspectors, and the village school at Tilstock, are among six North Shropshire schools in a `hit list’ for closure.

Once the list has been approved by Shirehall’s Cabinet – a decision is due on Wednesday of next week - a consultation exercise will begin.

All schools scheduled for closure will be shutting at the end of the summer term next year.

The county council has been having confidential talks with staff and governors over the past few months. The hit list was finally published this morning (Wednesday).

The county council says the closures are needed on both educational and financial grounds.
