JAILED Delamere loan shark Paul Nicholson will appear before a judge later this month in a bid to claim back £26,000 taken from him by the courts in May.

The 39-year-old former bouncer - imprisoned indefinitely for loan sharking, blackmail and rape - was stripped of the cash found in his £1m mansion on Golf Course Road after he was arrested.

The money was due to be split 50-50 between Cheshire Constabulary and the Exchequer, but an appeal hearing will now be heard at Warrington Crown Court on Friday, July 24.

Cheshire Police spokeswoman Shelley Williams said: “A confiscation hearing for the remainder of his assets will be heard in due course.”

Nicholson is currently serving a minimum of six-and-a-half years behind bars for his reign of terror over vulnerable debtors in Runcorn and Widnes.

The parole board can then release him if they are satisfied he no longer represents a threat to the public.

- Four Northwich men will be sentenced next week after pleading guilty to conspiring to burgle Nicholson’s home.

Anthony Lee Brown, 25, of Ashwood Close, Barnton; Peter Illidge, 27, of Warren Avenue, Lostock Gralam; Liam McGuigan, 20, of Hesketh Drive, Lostock Gralam and 34-year-old Matthew Tyrer, of Lime Avenue, Weaverham will all be sentenced at Chester Crown Court on Monday.
