WREXHAM boss Brian Little is under no pressure to offload players, even though he is actively involved in trying to attract yet more new faces to the Racecourse.

The Dragons boss has already signed Sam Aiston, Gavin Ward, Phil Bolland, Danny Sonner and Paul Hall in a bid to transform the club’s fortunes since the transfer window opened just over a fortnight ago.

And he hopes to make at least one further signing before this weekend’s match against League Two leaders, MK Dons, at the Racecourse.

Yesterday Little admitted he had fielded inquiries about some of his players from other clubs but has so far sanctioned only two loan deals that have seen youngsters Jamie Reed and Gareth Evans join Tamworth.

“I am under no pressure from anyone to sell, but I realise that a sale might help me to buy another player who I might feel could do a job for us,” he said yesterday.

The Racecourse boss refused to confirm or deny that Peterborough United – managed by former Wrexham midfielder Darren Ferguson – made a firm bid for Chris Llewellyn earlier this week.

“We have had expressions of interest from clubs in one or two of the players here, but sometimes they are the very people you don’t want to lose,” added Little.

“I don’t want to name individuals because that is between me and them, but I have spoken to the players involved and made it clear that whether anything happens will only come to pass if it is of benefit to this club and the job of keeping us in the Football League.”

He admitted that the task of keeping his better players and that of attracting fresh blood was not helped by Wrexham’s current position at the bottom of the League Two table.

“We are probably viewed as easy pickings at the moment, given our situation, and I can fully understand some of those players we don’t want to lose thinking that the grass might look better elsewhere,” said the former Aston Villa manager.

“But I’m keeping them and their agents fully in the picture and I can’t let anything happen on that front unless it opens a door for me somewhere else.

“Unfortunately, the players we might be willing to buy are not necessarily going to want to come here at the moment.”

But the Dragons boss added: “I genuinely hope we will have at least one more player in before the weekend.”
