THE mayor of Vale Royal, Malcolm Gaskill, got his hands dirty and helped the newly formed Wharton 2nd Cubs with a litter pick around their hut earlier this month.
The event was organised to show the Cubs that looking after their local environment is important, and will contribute towards their Global Conservation badge. In just an hour, the team collected six bags of rubbish.
“The litter pick was not only an excellent way of youngsters learning to support their local environment by keeping it tidy, but it also enabled them to work towards their latest badge,” said the mayor. “The Cubs learned a useful lesson in that every piece of litter dropped has to be picked up by somebody and I hope by their example others will learn.”
