A HARTFORD family had a narrow escape when someone pushed a lit firework through their letterbox at about 4.30am on New Year’s Day.
The firework set alight a set of curtains at the door of the house in Whitehall Drive, but luckily for the sleeping family, the noise woke the parents and the man of the house managed to put the flames out himself.
They all managed to escape unhurt but police are anxious to trace the culprit and are appealing for information.
A police spokesman said: “This could have been a very serious incident, and it was only due to the quick thinking of those at the address that people were not seriously injured.
“We are appealing to anyone who has any information about this incident to contact us.
“There may well have been other people about at that time and we urge them to come forward with any information to help our inquiry. This could have been much more serious.”
Anyone who can help is asked to telephone 0845 458 0000 and quote incident number 538 and the date January 1st.
