NORTHWICH grave digger Simon Ashbrook stepped into the limelight at Monday’s meeting of Northwich Town Council when Town Mayor Cllr Bob Robinson praised his 25 years service and presented him with a clock on behalf of the council.

Mr Ashbrook, 45 of Farm Road, Rudheath, can still remember the first grave he ever had to dig as it was seven feet down and big enough to fit three coffins in.

He said: “I certainly didn’t think I would be working in the cemeteries all this time. Life goes so quickly.”
