WIRRAL West Liberal Democrats have selected barrister Jeff Clarke as their prospective Parliamentary candidate to fight the next general election, expected in May.
The selection followed a hustings meeting held in Greasby, when constituency party members had a chance to hear and question a panel of potential candidates.
Following his selection Mr Clarke said he was delighted to have been chosen.
He said: "The Liberal Democrats in Wirral West have real momentum following the local elections held in June, which saw us both winning seats from the Conservatives and seeing a large increase in the number of people voting Lib Dem across the constituency.
"Voters who formerly supported the Labour and Conservative parties are now voting Liberal Democrat, as well as first time voters."
Constituency chairman Bob Wilkins said: "His selection should be taken as the clearest sign that we are not intending to merely make up the numbers."
