SHIREHALL is suspending on-street parking charges in Shrewsbury town centre whilst formalities in relation to this year’s increased charges are being rectified.
The decision to increase the on street parking charges within Shrewsbury town centre from 60p to 70p was included within the County Council’s budget proposals and became effective from 1 April 2008.
The County Council have become aware that the requisite notice to increase those charges in Shrewsbury town centre was not published at the relevant time.
Whilst the formalities in relation to the increased charge are being rectified the parking charges for on- street parking within Shrewsbury town centre are to be suspended with immediate effect.
The suspension of parking charges will be effected by way of switching off the machines and covering them with bags until such time as the formalities are completed. The charges will then resume at the increased rate.
The increased charges will resume as from September 3 and will be:
l Up to 30 minutes - 70p
l Up to 60 minutes (1 hour) - £1.40
l Up to 90 minutes (1 ½ hours) - £2.10
l Up to 120 minutes (2 hours) - £2.80
Anybody with a valid parking ticket for an on-street parking space issued between April 1 and August 13 2008 may take their ticket to the Raven Meadows car park office who will refund the difference in the charges.
Penny Spencer, Shirehall’s director of Economy & Environment, said: “We deeply regret our error and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
