Winsford United 3 Nostell MiW 3

UNITED lost a two goal lead in the last few minutes in the FA Cup extra-preliminary round on Saturday.

It was Nostell’s first ever FA Cup tie and their “must not lose” attitude included some rough stuff.

They took the lead in 23 minutes when Matthew Denton brought a parried save from Mike Langley and remained alert to net from the rebound.

Phil Mason levelled two minutes later after being pushed in the box. His first spot kick was weak and easily saved, but goalkeeper Dobbs was adjudged off his line – and Mason was ruthless when given the second chance.

United remained the better side, but did not go into the lead until the 72nd minute when Ross Kennedy sidefooted home at the end of a sweeping move.

With 12 minutes remaining Lee Madin was pushed by Tom Thornton and dusted himself down to score Blues’ second penalty and, surely, United would see out victory.

But Paul Bedford (84 minutes) and Oli Johnson in injury time provided a powerful finish to a blood and thunder tie.

United: Langley; Calland, Owens (Ridler 64), Callaghan, Riley; Couch (Hutchinson 79), Ennion, McGraa, Kennedy (Connell 81); Mason, Madin.
