Didsbury Northern 2 Winnington Park 1

A LATE goal broke Winnington hearts in south Manchester on Saturday meaning another good performance went unrewarded.

The visitors started sluggishly and soon found themselves behind when a quick free hit was deflected high into the Winnington goal.

Man-of-the-match keeper John-Paul Dodd made a number of important interventions to keep Park in it before the visitors started to assert themselves.

Peter Evans led the line up front and was the star outfield performer but despite his efforts, a goal proved elusive.

Steve Campagnaro and Andy Birdsey threatened down the flanks and it was the former who levelled the scores with a neat finish at the far post.

It looked like Winnington would claim a valuable point but with minutes to spare Didsbury claimed the win with a flicked finish from the edge of the circle.

Park now lie in eighth position in Division Two West of the Northern League having won two of their opening eight games of the campaign.

Back at Sir John Deane’s, Park 2nds put in a five-star display to soundly beat Bramhall 2nds. James Charlton and Steve Pinson each netted a brace while Julian Buckle’s deflected shot completed the 5-1 verdict.
