Rhyl 3 Haverfordwest County 2

THE Lilywhites claimed their first win over Haverfordwest in seven attempts thanks to an 87th-minute winner from substitute Dylan Owen.

Ex-Caernarfon Town man Owen had not been on the field 60 seconds when he celebrated his debut first-team goal for Rhyl to clinch a thrilling encounter.

John Hulse's men made the perfect start on seven minutes when the marauding Carl Clampitt drilled home from 15 yards after great hold-up play from Dave Cameron.

Lee Hunt just volleyed over for the home side, but as the half wore on Haverfordwest became more effective and they equalised on 38 minutes with a clinical left-foot finish from Lee Hudgell, following good build-up involving Simon Heal and Nicky Palmer.

The hosts almost regained the lead before the break when Clampitt clipped the outside of the post with another right-foot strike.

Chances were at a minimum in the second half until on 75 minutes County edged ahead. Hudgell broke down the left and found Tim Hicks, who turned on the edge of the area and netted with a superb right-footer.

But three minutes later a deep cross from the right by Mark Powell was headed in at the back post by Rhyl centre-half George Horan although substitute Andy Moran claims he got a touch.

Then three minutes from time Lilywhites substitute Owen, who had replaced Stuart Graves less than a minute earlier, took advantage of poor County defending to coolly slip the ball past advancing keeper Lee Kendall to keep Rhyl in third place.
