THE futuristic vision for Chester's new local authority offices has been revealed.

Award-winning architects have designed a glass-panelled building, which will sit inside the City Walls.

If planning permission is granted it will become the home of the city council, replacing the existing offices in The Forum.

The ambitious design is part of the £200m Northgate development and will become a new landmark. The plans have been drawn up by Ian Simpson Architects, who wanted to create a contemporary look.

Director Ian Simpson said: "We are very pleased to have been involved in this significant project.

"The building reflects the local distinctive characteristics of Chester's civic buildings such as the Walls, Cathedral and castle.

"The local red and orange stone is no longer available and is inappropriate, however, the design reinterprets this historical tradition in patterned and coloured glass."

The building is planned for the Gorse Stacks area, which is currently an open-air car park. It is hoped it will provide a more attractive gateway to the city.

Limited Partnership has submitted a planning application.. The building will provide all the council's functions in one location. The plans include a meeting room on each floor and public restaurant at street level and will have public parking at basement level.
