ALMOST 200 bottles and cans of alcohol have been seized by police in Halton during a two-week clampdown on booze-fuelled crime.

Gangs of anti-social underage drinkers have been the main focus of the campaign, alongside adults who buy drink on behalf of minors.

Runcorn neighbourhood policing unit has issued more than 100 warning letters to the parents of youngsters who have acted in an anti-social manner.

And a further 50 warning letters went to households whose children had been caught drinking.

Two youths were arrested for possession of an offensive weapon and a woman was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

Other drunken children have been escorted home by police.

Four Section 27 Direction to Leave notices were also issued in Runcorn and six in the Widnes area.

Spot checks on licensed premises were carried out in conjunction with trading standards officers.
