THE new Cheshire West and Chester Council has given its backing to proposals to make Kingsmead a parish in its own right.
Vale Royal Borough Council, which will form part of the new authority from April 1, began a “community governance review” for the parishes of Davenham and Northwich in June 2008.
And as part of the second stage of consultation, the shadow authority has now been asked for its view on establishing a new administrational area for Kingsmead, which currently lies within the parishes of Davenham and Northwich.
Parish councils’ powers and limitations are set down by law, but their main role involves speaking on behalf of the parish electorate and helping to improve services and general quality of life.
Powers and duties include providing bus shelters, litter bins and public toilets, creating bylaws and appointing school governors.
The decision by the shadow authority executive to support the creation of a new parish will be sent to Vale Royal Borough Council for consideration as part of its consultation programme.
