STEVE King has become Northwich Vics’ third manager of the season after Mike Marsh’s departure at the weekend.

King arrived at Vics this week from Lewes where he had an impressive managerial record at the East Sussex club.

He led the Rooks to the Conference South title last year and was twice named the league’s manager of the year.

Despite King’s success, he was forced out of the club at the end of the season.

Justin Skinner, King’s number two at Lewes, will become Vics’ assistant coach and the duo will take charge of the side for Burton Albion’s visit to the Marston’s Arena on Saturday.

Vics owner Jim Rushe was delighted to capture the services of King and believes he is the right man to steer Vics away from the Conference Premier relegation zone.

He said: “I am delighted for the club and I am delighted for Northwich to get Steve.

“His record speaks for itself and he has been excellent at bringing young players through and doubled Lewes’ crowds due to the type of football they played.

“I feel that we are very lucky to have Steve who is willing to move his life away from his house and family and hopefully he can take us forward and achieve more success with Northwich Vics.”

Former caretaker boss Mike Marsh walked out of the club at the weekend after he was not offered the manager’s role on a permanent basis and also that three players were released from their contracts.

Michael Byrne and Trevor Benjamin have now left the club.

Rushe paid tribute to Marsh’s efforts during what has been a tumultuous time behind the scenes.

He added: “I am sad to see him go but I am not in the position to offer him the job. I wish him all the best for the future.”

Rushe is confident that new faces will also be arriving in the Vics boardroom to help take the club forward.

He also revealed that a meeting will take place this week with officials from rival club Witton Albion to discuss how both clubs can work together.

He said: “We are going to be meeting with Witton to discuss all things football and see what is available that will mutually benefit both clubs.”
