MOTORSPORT: Weaver Valley has another national champion after Alan Kemp clinched the international age-related championship at Denbigh at the weekend.

Alan won the 50-59-years-old category. Also riding in that section was Chris Lamb who finished strongly in the bunch.

Alan took the win by a full bike length.

In the over 60 section, Mark Thompson,Chris Latter and Dave Astles finished fourth, fifth and eight respectively.

The over 40yrs race gave Kevan Underhill, Nic Butterworth and Andy Poole a tough time and in the uphill finish Underhill was best placed with Butterworth next followed by Poole.

Boost for Blacks

RUGBY UNION: Northwich Rugby Club’s first team squad will be boosted by two new signings when they jet in from Down Under to put pen to paper next month.

New Zealander Simon Pratt, a fast winger, and Australian second row Nigel Farrow fly into England in mid-August to officially seal their moves to the Blacks.

“They’re committed to the club now,” said chairman Sam Naylor. “They’re both quality players. We’re looking forward to having them.”

Northwich start their first season under new coach Kevin Greaves on August 16 with a home friendly against Colwyn Bay.

Green credentials

BOWLS: Anyone interested in taking up crown green bowls is encouraged to attend a free day of training led by qualified coaches in Northwich next month.

The event takes place at Vickersway Park, Manora Road on Saturday and Sunday, August 2 and 3, from 10am to 4pm. Anyone aged over eight is welcome.
