THE communities of Rhos and Penycae were given a special spring clean as part of Wrexham Council's Keep it Tidy campaign.

During the two-day programme recycling officers and amenity wardens visited schools, graffiti was removed from walls and cleansing department vehicles were highly visible as they gave the area a thorough spring clean.

To encourage recycling in the area a Neighbourhood Recycling Centre was opened in Penycae yesterday, to be followed by one in Rhos later in the year.

Residents were asked to help by not parking their cars on certain streets during the day to allow easier access, particularly for the cleaning machines.

The streets in Rhos affected last Tuesday included Market Street, Jones Street, Hope Street, School Street, Smith Street, Hall Street, Mountain Street, High Street, Broad Street, Queen Street and Princes Street.

Work was carried out in Penycae yesterday in Hall Street, Church Street, Bro Awelon, Maes y Nant, Groesfan, Coed y Nant and Copperas Hill.
