THE first ‘carbon neutral’ housing development in Mid Cheshire will be completed by summer 2008, developers say.

Construction is underway on the eco-friendly Littledales Park at Chester Road, Hartford, and project leaders Hillcrest Homes believe the 36-home scheme will prove a huge hit.

The properties are being built in the grounds of the historic Sandiway Cottage. Alternative planners initially wanted to demolish the 18th century mansion, but after securing the land Hillcrest has fully restored the cottage.

A company spokesperson said: “It is Hillcrest’s respect and admiration for this historic property which makes Littledales Park such a special place to live.

“Rather than demolish the cottage, we chose the more challenging task of restoring it, bringing it up to modern standards of build and energy efficiency and making it into a family home once more.”

The 36 homes will comprise two-bedroom ‘luxury’ apartments, five-bedroom semi-detached houses and four, five and six-bedroom detached properties.

Hillcrest worked with eco-friendly firm The CarbonNeutral Company to look at ways to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the site, and also helped fund projects to save CO2.
